Eleftheria | Expat Psychologist│Compassionate & Inclusive Integrative Therapy

Introduction

Welcome!

I am Dr Eleftheria Koutsonika, HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist based in the Netherlands. I created my practice to be the compassionate space for those navigating the complexities of modern life, identity and change.

How I Can Help
Whether you are moving through the heavy clouds of low mood and anxiety, feeling the quiet exhaustion of burnout, facing relational difficulties, or navigating a period of deep transition, I am here to hold space for you. We will work together to explore, reflect, and question at your pace, honoring your unique story with warmth and curiosity.

International & Expat Support
While I offer support for a wide range of psychological challenges, as someone born and raised in Greece, but having called different countries home for several years, I hold a personal understanding of the unique challenges of building a life and an identity from scratch abroad. I am here to help you navigate the sadness and the loneliness that can follow relocation, holding space to honour the losses that often go unnoticed. Together, we can explore the “in-between” identity that emerges when you live across borders, cultural adjustement and the feeling of being not quite from “here” or quite from “there” anymore. A place where we can navigate life’s challenges and work through complex emotions that come with relocation, helping you find a sense of home within yourself, no matter where you are in the world.

Specialised Support:

Alongside this, I offer specialized support in the following areas:

  • Grief and Loss: A space where your grief can simply exist with patience and no deadline, focusing not on “moving on” but on honoring the love that remains.

  • Perinatal journey: A nurturing space to navigate the life-altering transition of pregnancy and parenthood (antenatal and postnatal), helping you move toward a place of balance as you navigate this new role.

  • Gender, Sexuality & Identity: An affirmative, warm space for exploring the spectrum of identity, navigating transitions, or managing the unique nuances of LGBTQIA+ life and relationships.

  • Student Life: Support for burnout, imposter syndrome, and the personal shifts that come with university life.

How I Work: A Collaborative Partnership

I am an Integrative Psychologist, which means I don't believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Rather than following a rigid plan, our work is a collaborative partnership where we untangle the complexities of your life together. My work draws from several evidence-based modalities tailored to your needs, including:

  • Person-Centred Therapy

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

My practice is culturally sensitive, sex positive and gender and queer-affirming.

What to Expect

Our journey begins with an intake session, a gentle, open conversation to explore your goals. From there, we co-create a personalized, flexible path for your therapy. This is a living process that evolves as you do; your feedback is the most important part of our work.

Next Steps
I offer a free 30-minute introductory video call to see if we are a good fit and to discuss how I can support your journey, with no obligation to continue. I’d be honoured to walk alongside you in this journey.

Online therapy

All sessions are held virtually via Google Meet, a secure and encrypted video conferencing platform that ensures our conversations remain private and confidential.

How it works:

  • Simple Access: Before our appointment, you will receive a private link and detailed instructions on how to join our digital therapy room.

  • Consistency: This medium allows us to maintain a consistent therapeutic relationship regardless of your travel schedule or location.

  • Environment: To get the most out of our sessions, I recommend finding a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable.

Specialisations and Expertises

My practice is rooted in the belief that transitions, whether that is between countries, life stages (like parenthood), or versions of ourselves (identity and grief), are not just "tasks" to be managed, but profound identity shifts that deserve a sacred, patient space.

Expectation of Sessions
Therapy is a highly personal journey. While some clients find that a few sessions are effective for navigating a specific transition or learning immediate tools, many of my clients choose medium-to-long-term support to explore deeper patterns of life and identity. We will co-create a flexible plan during our intake and review our progress regularly to ensure it meets your evolving needs.

Most common issues I support people with:

  • Relocation & Migratory Grief: Moving abroad is often celebrated as an adventure, but there is a quiet, shadowed side to relocation that we rarely give ourselves permission to feel. It is the weight of ambiguous loss, mourning a home, a language, and a version of yourself that still exists somewhere, but is no longer yours to touch. I understand the exhaustion of "starting from scratch" and the specific loneliness of being physically present in one world while your heart is still tethered to another.

  • Grief and Loss: I believe grief is a sacred, personal journey, not a problem to be solved or a checklist to complete. We live in a culture that demands we "get over it," yet some losses simply alter the trajectory of our lives. Whether you are navigating the death of a loved one or the grief of a life transition that others don't recognize as loss, I hold a space where your pain doesn't have to be tidy or quiet.

  • Perinatal & Parenthood Journey: There is a heavy pressure for pregnancy and parenthood to be the most amazing time of your life. But for many, it is a period of profound, disorienting identity shift. It can be a time of unspoken anxiety, trauma, and a sense of isolation, especially when you are doing it far from your original "village." I offer a space to name the parts of this journey that feel "not allowed", the fear, the exhaustion, and the search for your new self.

  • Gender, Sexuality & Identity: Living authentically in a world that often demands we fit into boxes is its own unique struggle. Identity isn't a destination; it is an evolving spectrum. Whether you are navigating your sexual orientation, gender identity, or the shifting dynamics of your relationships, I provide a space where we explore the nuances of who you are, away from the noise of societal expectations.

  • Student Life: University life is often framed as a "golden period," yet it is frequently defined by the quiet suffocation of imposter syndrome and the fear of not being enough. I understand the burnout that comes from carrying the weight of expectation, both from yourself and the world, and I help you find your ground when the pressure to perform starts to feel like losing yourself.

Fees

I truly believe that financial circumstances shouldn’t be the thing that stands in the way of you getting the support you need.

My standard fee for a 50-minute individual session is €100. However, I know that life isn't always lived at a "standard" rate, especially if you are a student, navigating unemployment, or currently finding your feet.

Because of this, I hold a dedicated number of sliding scale spots in my practice. If my full fee feels out of reach for you right now, please don't let that stop you from reaching out.

During our free 30-minute introductory call, we can talk openly about your situation and what would feel sustainable for you. My priority is for us to find a middle ground that works for both of us, so we can focus on the work that matters most: your well-being.
