Susanne | Integrative therapist, hypnotherapist and couples therapist
Introduction
Clients and colleagues come to me because they experience the freedom to be completely themselves. They feel completely accepted and dare to speak freely.
I like to get to the core quickly and take you to a deeper and broader insight into yourself, your life, your strength, your relationships.
I received my formation as an Integrative Therapist and Hypnotherapist at the Academy for Psychotherapy in Amsterdam. As an integrative therapist and hypnotherapist I am affiliated with the professional associations VIT and NVECP. I have also completed EMDR training and various training courses to become a relationship therapist.
I have been working in my own practice since 2008.
In recent years I have started working more and more with EMDR, because I have seen in practice how much positive impact it has on people, even if the unpleasant memories from the past do not necessarily concern one intense traumatic event but are spread over a longer period of time, such as an unhappy childhood, an unpleasant relationship or a history of bullying.

Integrative psychotherapy
Integrative psychotherapy is a results-oriented, short-term form of therapy. The focus is not only on what is not going well; we take your whole person into consideration with all your qualities, capabilities, resources, etc., and how you can use them to achieve your goal.
The approach is tailor-made for everyone. After all, every person is unique.
The approach is tailor-made for everyone. After all, every person is unique.
The term 'integrative' comes from integrating, making whole. When we are not feeling well, there are often parts of ourselves that do not shine, emotions and sides that we cannot reach, behaviors and reactions of ourselves that we do not understand or cannot control, and so on. In integrative psychotherapy you strengthen the connection with yourself, so that you become strong and 'whole' again.
Not reimbursed from the basic health insurance
Not reimbursed from the basic health insurance
You can only request a partial refund from your insurer if you have additional insurance for Alternative Treatment Methods. How much you get back depends on your policy. Please inquire with your insurance company.
If you are really looking for a psychologist who is reimbursed from the basic insurance, you will have to be referred to a GZ psychologist by your GP. Most mental health psychologists have a significant waiting list.
When it is your turn, an intake will follow. The practitioner must then determine through a diagnosis that you have a disorder that is serious enough to qualify for reimbursement. Based on that diagnosis (if it is serious enough), you will be reimbursed for an number of sessions. Your deductible will then be deducted first.
If your complaints are too mild to qualify for reimbursement, the psychologist can adjust your diagnosis in such a way that it still falls under the disorders that are reimbursed. That diagnosis will then end up in your medical patient file.
This does not apply to my treatments. I do not have to make a diagnosis and no information about the treatment will be included in your medical history. The reimbursement is also not deducted from your deductible first. You settle the bill with me and submit the invoice to your insurer.
If you do not have additional insurance, you will pay everything yourself, or ask your employer to cover your costs.
My therapies are usually short-term because I can provide tailor-made care. I do not have to work according to protocols and can tailor the treatment completely to you.
My therapies last between 4 and 10 sessions, occasionally it is a little more.

Hypnotherapy
Many people know very well what they want to change about their behavior, thoughts or the way they feel. But that is often easier said than done. There may be 'something' in you that makes things not go the way you want them to, and in spite of all your rational intentions and plans you may find yourself unable to change that.
This is because many of our processes take place at a deeper level within ourselves, in our subconscious.
This is because many of our processes take place at a deeper level within ourselves, in our subconscious.
With hypnotherapy you can tackle things on that deeper level. We do this by using a deep state of mental relaxation, also called trance. Contrary to what many people think, you are not 'zoned out', you are still there, but your thinking will move a little to the background so that you can make contact with deeper layers of your consciousness.
Hypnotherapy is a relatively quick form of therapy that allows you to tackle and clear deeper blockages and problem zones quite easily.

Can you tell us more about therapy with you?
Before starting, you will be given the opportunity to have a short (approx. 15 minutes) online introductory meeting within a few days. It will provide us both with a quick scan of whether there is a match between what you are looking for and what I have to offer. This conversation is free of charge.
When we schedule a real appointment, the process starts with an extensive intake, consisting of an intake form and an in-depth explorational session. We will explore your issues and goals and determine which approach would be best suited.

Depending on what is needed, I can use various forms of therapy such as hypnotherapy, talk therapy, EMDR, emotionally focused therapy, cognitive techniques, mindfulness exercises and visualizations.
Can you tell us more about relationship therapy with you?
I work with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), developed by Sue Johnson (author of the book 'Hold me tight'), and combine this with other insights and methods.
The expected results of relationship therapy are: better communication with your partner, experiencing more connection and therefore more love. Getting to know yourself and each other in a deeper way, which deepens the relationship.
In certain cases, if partners have been unhappy with each other for a long time and realize during therapy that the relationship is no longer viable, the therapy can also help them breaking up in a good way.
I also counsel people who have already separated and want to continue to interact in a healthy, pleasant way when it comes to the children. If there is still a lot of bitterness, misunderstanding and incomprehension among ex-partners, this is likely to have an impact on the children, parenting in general and can even influence their relationship with a possible new partner.
Over the past year I have counseled several couples who were painfully separated and had difficulty communicating well with each other, and there were still many negative feelings.

Can you tell us more about EMDR therapy?
Can you tell us more about EMDR therapy?
After traumatic events, something may stick with you, causing you to experience all kinds of unpleasant or anxious feelings when you are reminded of the events - or even anything remotely related to them. With EMDR you can reduce the intensity of these traumas in just a few sessions. No matter how long ago the bad event happened!
I increasingly see people in my practice who have been bullied in the past or had an unhappy childhood and notice that it still affects them. EMDR also gives very good results with these people.
During the intake, I will assess whether your complaints and symptoms can best be treated with EMDR or whether there is a greater chance of success if they are treated with hypnotherapy or otherwise. Sometimes the treatment consists of both hypnotherapy and EMDR sessions.

How many sessions of therapy are usually needed?
That varies completely from person to person, depending on the circumstances and also on the commitment of the person themselves, as well as the willingness to look at themselves and/or step out of their comfort zone.
Generally speaking, you should expect about 4 to 10 sessions, excluding the intake session.
With EMDR concerning a single traumatic event, the process consists of 1 or 2 intake sessions, 1 to 3 EMDR sessions and a final session.
It is important to always end with a closure session. Don't just break off the therapy, even if you are happy with the result after 3 or 4 sessions. This is necessary to maintain and strengthen the result.
The above mentioned number of sessions also applies to relationship therapy, depending on the status of the relationship. The longer the problems persist and the greater the distance between the partners, the more sessions are needed.
It also makes a big difference how seriously you work at it in between sessions. If you put time and energy into healing your relationship, you will need far fewer sessions and achieve a better result than if you only go to therapy and do not spend time and energy on the relationship in between sessions.
The result (and therefore also the number of sessions) in both individual and relationship therapy partly depends on your own active attitude. People who dedicate themselves, reap the most benefits.

Most common issues I support people with:
1. Processing painful events from the past
2. Relationship issues
3. Insecurity / self-image
4. Stress/burnout symptoms
5. Fears, anxiety
6. Dealing with conflicts and/or setting boundaries
1. Processing unpleasant events
You may still be bothered in your daily life by painful things that happened in the past. This is not strange, many people have to deal with this at some point.
Due to various factors and circumstances, your system may sometimes not be able to process certain things immediately. With therapy, this processing can still take place in the present - regardless of how long ago something happened.

If there is a single traumatic event (for example an accident, traumatic childbirth or violence) to which you still react strongly when you are reminded of it, you can expect that after a few sessions of EMDR the charge will be reduced significantly or even disappear completely.
If it concerns multiple events that have happened over a longer period of time, EMDR can also be very effective. If necessary, I can combine EMDR with hypnotherapy and other forms of therapy.
2. Relationship problems
I provide relationship therapy (to couples) as well as individual therapy to people who are experiencing problems in their relationships or finding a permanent partner.
The results of the therapy can include: improved communication in the relationship, more connection, more understanding of each other and yourself. You can resolve conflicts and disagreements together without heated arguments. Openness is created, allowing the relationship to deepen. As a result, both partners experience more connection and more peace in the relationship.
Couples therapy can also help prevent an impending breakup or, if this cannot be averted, help the partners end the relationship in the best possible way without resentment or loose ends and with mutual respect.
Finally, relationship therapy is extremely useful if you have already separated and it has become difficult to communicate with each other in a pleasant way about, for example, the children (co-parenting).
The result of the therapy is that tensions are reduced and a new form is found to continue as ex-partners in a calm manner.

3. Insecurity / self-confidence / self-image
Many people come to me because they want to work on their self-confidence. They may have come to that conclusion as a result of a burnout or another crisis in their lives.
We work with not only cognitive methods (detecting and working on limiting beliefs, learning to recognize deeper patterns) but also hypnotherapeutic sessions to really increase your sense of self-confidence and self-acceptance from within.
Goals can be: greater self-confidence, more self-compassion and self-love, accepting yourself as you are.
This makes you feel more balanced and no longer dependent on what others think of you. When you please others, it is no longer because you think you 'have to' to keep them friends, but you only do so when you really mean it.
Your relationships with others become more authentic. You are stronger, know your worth and dare to go for what you want.

4. Stress/burnout complaints
In my practice I treat people who are suffering from incipient stress complaints as well as people with complete burnout.
By tackling stress complaints at an earlier stage, you can prevent burnout. You learn to approach life and work differently so that you remain better balanced in the future.
If you already have a burnout, the treatment in the first phase is aimed at creating peace and relaxation and regaining your energy. I use hypnotherapy, among other things, but also concrete instructions for your recovery.
As your resilience returns, we can work on a deeper layer. Any past events are processed, non-constructive patterns are detected and the causes of the burnout are addressed so that it does not return.
5. Fears and anxiety
Fears can have different causes. For example, they can arise from certain past events. In that case, you can achieve good results with just a few sessions of EMDR.
Sometimes it is not immediately clear where the fears come from. With hypnotherapy you can change things in your subconscious. It is then not necessarily necessary to know the cause. Fears of which you do not know the cause can sometimes also be reduced with a number of EMDR sessions. If necessary, I use a combination of hypnotherapy and EMDR. These methods can reinforce and complement each other.
Stress, grief, sadness or other 'hidden' emotions can also be expressed as fear. We then focus the sessions on learning to deal with emotions and processing things from the past that still bother you.
6. Dealing with conflicts and/or setting boundaries
Through therapy you gain a deeper insight into your own patterns of conflict, your triggers, fears and patterns. You then learn to deal with them differently so that you can solve them with peace and equality.
You no longer avoid conflicts, but dare to discuss things in a calm manner and indicate your own boundaries.
