Barlas | Psychologist | Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher
Psychologist The Hague
Hello and Welcome!
I'm Barlas, a psychologist (NIP registered & vLOGO accredited) and meditation and mindfulness teacher (IMMA & CPD certified) with over 12 years of full-time international clinical experience. I have helped, and continue to help, thousands of people worldwide reparent themselves and heal from a wide range of challenges.
I specialize in treating depression, anxiety disorders, (childhood) trauma, relationship / family issues, and work-related challenges (burnout, etc.) using cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), schema therapy, emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness, and somatic/body-based approaches.
My therapeutic orientation is fully embodied and holistic-existential, meaning we will always address you as a whole, unique human being (going beyond just repeatedly talking about negative thoughts and emotions, for example) to foster deep, lasting transformation.
Born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, I studied as an international student and worked as an expat in the U.S. and Canada for nearly a decade. Since 2017, I’ve been living in the Netherlands as an expat psychologist, further growing my extensive experience working with people from diverse international backgrounds.
If you're seeking a highly trained, experienced professional to guide you toward deep and lasting change, I’m here to help.

Insurance Coverage: I do not have contracts with any insurance providers, and my services are not automatically covered by health insurance. However, depending on your health insurance policy, you may be eligible for partial or even full reimbursement for my services. If you plan to seek reimbursement, please contact your insurer directly to confirm your coverage. Regardless of your reimbursement status, my payment policy remains the same: payment is made out of pocket at the time of service, and any reimbursement you receive afterward is solely between you and your insurance provider.
-
No Show Policy: Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance via email to avoid charges. Late cancellations or no-shows will incur a 100 Euro No Show Fee, regardless of the excuse or reason. This policy, common among all health professionals and clinics, is in place to protect those who rely on scheduled appointments for their livelihood from the unpredictability, etc. of their clients' lives. Note that most practitioners or clinics do charge the full session fee.
-
Sliding Fee Scale Spots: Although limited, I try to keep a few sliding fee scale spots for clients who genuinely need a discount. Please contact me to inquire and apply.
- Starting Therapy: Direct Client Contact Required: As a registered psychologist in the Netherlands, with training in the USA, Canada, and the Netherlands, I adhere to the ethical standards of the American Psychological Association (APA), Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), and the Nederlands Instituut van Psychologen (NIP). These standards overlap greatly and emphasize client autonomy, informed consent, and confidentiality, requiring that all adult clients initiate contact themselves to arrange therapy. This direct engagement is essential for building a proper, collaborative therapeutic relationship. For this reason, third-party arrangements (e.g., by spouses or family members) are not permitted, as they can interfere with the therapeutic process.
- Free Consultation: If the above conditions are suitable for you, please send me a message to schedule a free 15 minute video call to see if we'd be a good match!
