What can I help you with?
You may get stuck at a certain point in your life and you just don’t know how to move on. Especially as an expat or international student, it can be hard to be away from your family or friends back at home. Cultural differences can be hard to navigate. Perhaps you run into psychological issues: stress, poor sleep, worrying, fear or depression. At times like these, it’s nice if you can talk to a psychologist, who can offer professional help.
Usually these are not the nicest times in your life, but afterwards they are often very valuable. Because, what do they have to teach you? And can these setbacks eventually become a valuable fertilizer for your personal growth and future? I am happy to walk along with you during this process.
Mental Health Problems
You can contact me for the following issues:Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Insecurity or low self-confidence, Stress-related complaints, Perfectionism, Mourning, Compulsive thoughts or behaviours, Burnout, Medically unexplained physical symptoms, Tinnitus, Questions about life and meaning of life, Difficulty adapting to changed situations or life phase.
If your issue is not listed here, you can always contact me to see if you are in the right place at my private practice. However, crisis, addiction, or serious eating problems are nor treated by me. For these kinds of problems, you can be referred to specialist mental health care by your general practitioner.
During the sessions, we will take an extensive look at exactly what you are struggling with. While exploring together, an image of you as a person will emerge. What made you into the person you are today? And what goals would you like to set for therapy?
Besides being a psychologist and mindfulness trainer, I have been trained as an intercultural communication trainer. The therapy aims to be culturally sensitive.
The treatment uses various techniques such as mindfulness, EMDR, focusing, cognitive behavioral therapy and Rogers’ client-centered approach. The treatment is holistics and involves both the mind (cognitions and emotions) and the body. The body is a wonderful entrance to work directly with the (underlying) emotion, something that is more difficult if you only work on a cognitive level. However, you will not be touched during the treatment.
In order to provide a tailored, holistic treatment that involves both the mind and the body, psychology practice Hart & Aandacht likes to work together with the neighboring psychosomatic physiotherapists
and a psychomotor therapist. This is optional.
Clients often quickly experience a sense of familiarity with me and appreciate that I am able to put the finger on the sore spot in a gentle and at the same time clear way.

Qualifications and registrations- Master of Science in Clinical and Developmental Psychology
- Certified intercultural communication trainer
- Certified mindfulness trainer
- Trained EMDR practicioner (simple PTSD)
I am registered at the Dutch institute for psychologists (NIP). This registrations means that I deliver quality and I live up to the ethical code provided by the NIP. Registration number is 235896.
I offer therapy to adults and young adults from the age of 18. You can contact me for short-term therapy. That means on average a maximum of 10 sessions. Sometimes it can be more and sometimes it can be less. Sometimes more extensive therapy may be required. I will discuss this with you early on, if possible.
My practice was founded on the desire to be able to offer psychological care, curative and preventive, with an emphasis on (common) humanity instead of on a diagnosis. Who is the person sitting in front of me, and how has their history influenced what they are facing now? Can someone feel old pain and make choices for him/her/them in the here and now that fit better? Mindfulness and (trauma) therapy aimed at underlying injuries provide a wonderful basis for this, without pathologising.
My specialization is guiding people in finding the core pain of their issues. I like to work with emotion and old pain. In addition, I work pragmatically and solution-oriented with the client on the issues that lie more on the surface, for example by means of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Most common issues I support people with:
- (Cultural) adaptation problems
- Maladaptive cognitive, emotional and behavioral patterns
- Unprocessed memories and emotions
